As described
by the American Society of Addiction Medicine,
Level 1 Outpatient Services
Level 1 encompasses
organized nonresidential services, which may be delivered in a wide
variety of settings. Addiction treatment personnel or addiction credentialed
clinicians provide professionally directed evaluation, treatment and
recovery services to persons with substance related disorders. These
services are provided in regularly scheduled sessions of usually fewer
than 9 contact hours per week.
These outpatient services are designed to treat the individual's level
of illness severity and to achieve permanent changes in an individual's
alcohol or other drug using behavior. To accomplish this, these services
address major lifestyle, attitudinal, and behavioral issues that have
the potential to undermine the goals of treatment or to inhibit the
individuals ability to cope with major life tasks without the non-medical
use of alcohol or other drugs. Length of service will vary with the
severity of the individual's illness and his or her response to treatment.
